Atlassian Launches Elastic Bamboo

It can launch remote build agents, or rather elastic agents, into the cloud

Atlassian, the Australian ISV that makes the JIRA issue tracker and the Confluence enterprise wiki, has pushed out the 2.2 release of Bamboo, its continuous integration server. The widgetry's dubbed Elastic Bamboo because of a sexy new feature that offers the Bamboo user added capacity complements of Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud.

It can launch remote build agents, or rather elastic agents, into the cloud.

It's meant to meet the fluctuating demands of typical software development cycles and cut the time and expense needed to get and boot new server instances, scaling capacity up and down.

The company claims Bamboo is now the only continuous integration server to run distributed builds in-house, on the cloud or a combination of both.

Bamboo, which compiles and tests code as it changes, is reportedly used by almost a thousand customers in 45 countries including Cisco, Mazda, BNP Parisbas, Hilton Hotels and Apache Tapestry.

Using the widgetry on EC2 requires an Amazon Web Services account.

Elastic Bamboo builds can be run from behind a firewall. And Elastic Bamboo can be controlled via the Bamboo REST API.

Aside from other refinements, Bamboo e-mails have also been redesigned in this release. HTML templates are now supported and are customizable. New notification events let developers collaborate more easily via build comments and detect when a build hang.
