Winners of GlassFish Community Innovation Awards Celebrate On-stage During Sun Tech Days Sao Paulo

Sun Sponsored Awards Program Recognizes Open Source Technology Innovation with 102 Winners Sharing $175,000 Prize

Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAVA) today announced the winners of the GlassFish Community Innovation Awards Contest designed to fuel innovation around the GlassFish(TM) application server. GlassFish is based on the reference implementation of Java(TM) Platform, Enterprise Edition and is one of the leading open source application servers in the industry today with more than eight million downloads since its release in May 2005. The contest was part of Sun's Open Source Community Innovation Awards Program, a multi-year program running across several open source communities with a $1 million total prize.

We had a great diversity of contributions (code and non-code) from community members throughout the world, said Eduardo Pelegri-Llopart, distinguished engineer of Sun. Several winners provided localizations of content (German, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, French and Russian). Winners included employees of Red Hat, WebTide and Oracle. Also, diversity of contributions from Hudson, OpenESB, OpenPortal, Shoal, Grizzly, Jersey and Spnego projects show that the GlassFish community is more than a server.

"The GlassFish Challenge provided me with an opportunity to work on several Static Code Analysis Plug-ins for the Hudson project, said Dr. Ullrich Hafner, architect of the development and tools team at Avaloq Evolution AG. Our team needed the analytic tools to study the code within the Hudson continuous integration server. Winning the grand prize in the Challenge and receiving acknowledgment from the community motivates me to make these plug-ins even better.

The three top winners and categories include the following:
