JetBrains Releases IntelliJ IDEA 8 Milestone 1

Milestone Release Gives a Glimpse of Things to Come in IntelliJ IDEA 8.0, Makes Available Major New Features

PRAGUE, August 11 /PRNewswire/ -- JetBrains(R), creators of intelligent, productivity-enhancing tools for software developers, have announced the availability of IntelliJ(R) IDEA 8 Milestone Release 1, the official preview of the award-winning Java IDE, IntelliJ IDEA 8, due to release by the end of the Fall 2008.

The Milestone is an important step to releasing the next version of IntelliJ IDEA, designed to help developers stay on top of the latest technologies, frameworks and languages. It enables the development of rich, complex solutions that meet the demands of today's dynamic environment.

This preview release - already a feature-rich, robust and extensible IDE in its own right - brings brand new JBoss Seam integration, JavaScript/Flex debugger, high-performance code coverage engine, and support for FreeMarker and Velocity. Other additions include REST WebServices, extended support for Struts 2 and Spring 2.5, new code inspections, new quick-fixes, and, of course, superior performance. Numerous improvements have also been made to Maven and Version Control systems support, which now covers SubVersion 1.5.

"This year, while we traditionally concentrated on improving the development experience for Java programmers, we've also done some good work in adjacent areas," said Max Shafirov, IntelliJ IDEA project lead. "This new focus has been on an all-new platform for supporting multiple programming languages. On the basis of IntelliJ IDEA, with its state-of-the-art productivity-boosting features, we are creating a powerful plugin for Scala, as well as slim, light and easy-to-use IDEs for Ruby, Python, and other languages. We'll get there soon, but meanwhile, we're putting out this Milestone release so that everyone can preview IntelliJ IDEA 8 and already start using its major new features."

IntelliJ IDEA 8 continues to expand developers' possibilities with its numerous productivity-boosting features and enhancements, including:

    - Dedicated SQL console with support for multiple dialects
    - Multiple new code inspections with automatic quick-fixes
    - New automatic refactorings that work with a mixed codebase
    - Greater performance and enhanced usability
    - And much more...
