AccuRev Selected by PacketVideo to Enhance its Geographically Distributed Development Process

AccuRev Proves Strongest SCM Solution Based on Side-by-Side Performance Tests

AccuRev announced that PacketVideo (PV) has standardized on AccuRev for process-centric software configuration management (SCM) to enhance the efficiency and collaboration of its worldwide development organization.

PV conducted an exhaustive evaluation of SCM solutions to replace its existing SCCM tool. AccuRev was chosen as it proved to be the best performer and for its ability to efficiently manage PV’s geographically distributed software development release process, eliminate merging and branch mastership issues and substantially reduce administration and training costs.

Michael Marrewa, PV’s senior manager, Engineering, said, “We are on track to upgrade all of our 400 users with AccuRev ahead of schedule. With the transition away from our mastership-based development tool to AccuRev, we will be able to easily manage our parallel development between our 10 development locations. The tests from our pilot indicate that this improvement, along with the speed gains of AccuRev, will enable significant administrative cost savings and an increase of productivity in the neighborhood of 30 percent in the first year.”

AccuRev will be used to manage software for embedded multimedia applications and provide the PV team with centralized code management and process controls with real-time collaboration across multiple geographically distributed and offshore development locations. Additional business benefits AccuRev will provide to PV include:

  • Enhanced control, visibility, and audit-ability across its development organization
  • Improved support for parallel development and an alternative to MultiSite replication
  • Enabling multistage continuous integration by isolating builds by stream
  • Bi-directional synchronization with Atlassian JIRA using change packages to associate code changes with issues and support task-based development
  • Substantial decrease in the cost-per-developer and near zero administration costs
