"When we started working on this plugin" -- the project lead Eugene Vigdorchik said -- "our goal was to not just add another popular language to IntelliJ IDEA. We wanted to implement the best-in-the-market support for Groovy developers, and we are proud to say that now they can develop Groovy with the same pleasure as our Java users do. Some initial support for the Grails framework is also available in this first preview, and we have much more for both Groovy and Grails on our roadmap to the final release."

The first public preview of the JetGroovy plugin is available now and brings IntelliJ IDEA's award-winning, productivity-boosting features to Groovy and Grails, including:

-- Smart, context-sensitive code completion with resolution of symbols between Groovy and Java -- Syntax highlighting, code formatting and folding -- Error highlighting, including: unresolved classes, unresolved unqualified properties, incompatible type assignments, method calls and more -- Auto-insertion of imports statements, parameter info -- Refactorings, advanced navigation and views -- Automatic generators for Grails controllers, views, domain classes, jobs, script and more

Anyone using IntelliJ IDEA 7.0 Milestone 2 (just released) can make use of the JetGroovy Plugin. IntelliJ IDEA 6.0 users are entitled to use the 7.0 milestone releases free, for commercial use, until the end of 2007, and 30-day free evaluations are also available.

You can download the plugin and find more information about it at http://plugins.intellij.net/plugin/?id=1524 or via the IntelliJ IDEA Plug-in Manager.

The final release of the JetGroovy Plug-in, with additional features and improvements will be available by the end of 2007.
